A dry day with a southerly breeze.

A fine weather day as we weave our way through the old part of the port and then the new.

A long day in the rain and into wind. Journey time not helped by my addition of a random way point to add another hour to our discomfort. With about 5km to go to the ferry a kind driver stopped to inform us that the ferry was broken and not running. Cameron sped on and arrived at the ferry terminal to catch the driver of the departing bus who told him there would be a bus in another hour.

All well in the end and after hot showers we enjoyed a fabulous dinner In the Fischereihaven – stunning eel soup. 

Cycling along the north shore of the Dollart sea looking south towards the industrial ports of the Nerherlands, including Delfzijl, put previois stop-over.

A natural bird sanctuary with a large range of waders, ducks and terns. We witnessed a Montagu’s harrier covering a wheat field in search of prey – such an elegant bird.

On the ferry from Ditzum

The wet weather of yesterday had taken its toll on our electronics and Vic’s back. The assist controller on the Gazelle failed with Vic left with Eco power only. Vic’s iPhone would not charge and combined with a failed attempt to find a bike repairer we set off at 10:30. We took the decision to ride a more direct route to Delfzijl. A good decision for many reasons and with excellent international assist from Cycle Heaven of York, Gazelle and Eddy Lambeck in Appingedam, we got the bike repaired the following morning.
